Empowering Women Leaders and Aligning Gender Action Policies in Sarajevo

From August 29 to September 1, 2024, Sarajevo became a vibrant center of empowerment, where women leaders from across the region gathered to push the boundaries of gender equality. The “Breaking Barriers – Women Leaders Workshop” brought together a group of exceptional women, all of whom have previously demonstrated excellence in local engagements supported by the Breaking Barriers for Girls in Europe initiative. This advanced training session aimed to bolster their leadership abilities, sharpen their knowledge, and help build sustainable women’s networks within their communities.

Strengthening Leadership and Community Impact

The workshop’s primary goal was to equip these women with the tools to drive grassroots change and promote gender equality. By focusing on strengthening leadership, the event ensured that participants gained the confidence and resources needed to return to their communities as agents of change. These women, already role models in their respective regions, now have a greater capacity to foster sustainable, gender-inclusive networks that not only support each other but also influence policy and societal attitudes.

Aligning Gender Actions Across Regions

One of the highlights of the event was the organizational alignment between the regional staff and headquarters of the Cross Cultures Project Association (CCPA). This strategic gathering allowed staff to brainstorm and align on gender action policies, ensuring that all CCPA projects reflect cohesive, effective gender-sensitive approaches. By streamlining these efforts, CCPA aims to have a more substantial impact in promoting gender equity across all its initiatives.

Open Fun Football Schools Seminar: A Platform for Gender Equality in Sports

The workshop coincided with the Open Fun Football Schools seminar, a dynamic event where coaches and leaders came together to focus on community sports development and gender equality. Through various activities and discussions, participants explored how football can act as powerful tools for breaking down gender barriers. The seminar reinforced the importance of creating equitable spaces in local communities, ensuring that both boys and girls have equal opportunities to participate in sports.

This dual focus on leadership and community sports engagement reflects CCPA’s holistic approach to promoting gender equality. From empowering women leaders to engaging local communities through fun and inclusive sports activities, the organization is making strides towards creating a fairer and more inclusive future.
