OFFS for children in Ukraine
Happy children in Ukraine at the OFFS

Ukraine is the latest member of the Cross Cultures family. The project in Ukraine is developed together with SIDA and with a special focus on Crimea. Ethnic Russians make up the bulk of the population on Crimea, but there are also large groups of Ukrainians and Muslim Tatars, and the OFFS-program is developed to bring these communities together. Furthermore, another focus is on the border region to Moldova.

Ukraine is a country located in Eastern Europe, which became independent in 1991 during the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The country borders Russia, Belarus, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Moldova.

Bringing children in Ukraine of different ethnicity together

Ukraine is, as of 2016, involved in a territorial dispute with Russia over the Crimean peninsula, which Russia annexed in 2014. However, Ukraine and most of the international community recognise the peninsula as Ukrainian.

More than 77% of the population is of Ukrainian ethnicity, while larger minorities are comprised of Russians, Belarusians, Moldovans, Crimean Tatars, Bulgarians, Hungarians, Romanians, Poles, Jews, Armenians, Greeks and Tatars. The Russian minority is mainly located on the Crimean Peninsula, where they are estimated to make up 68% of the population, while ethnic Ukrainians make up about 16%.

Cross Cultures focuses on bringing children in Ukraine of different ethnicity together at the Open Fun Football Schools promoting peace and reconciliation.
