Cross Cultures’ Impact in Ukraine 2024

In 2024, Cross Cultures continues to bring communities together across Ukraine through the power of Fun Football. While air raid sirens and damaged infrastructure present daily challenges, our dedicated volunteer network demonstrates resiilience in delivering Fun activities that create safe spaces for children.

Our signature program – Open Fun Football Schools (OFFS) – reached 1.153 children across 16 regions in 2024, including 397 girls. For 58% of participants, thismarked their first experience with organised sports activities. These OFFS, led by 346 educated volunteers – including 123 women – focus on bringing people together and promote peace through Fun Football activities.

To maintain continuous community engagement, we established 18 Youth Hubs where there is room for psychosocial activities such as mine awareness and psychological support, besides our Fun Football activities.

Since May these hubs have hosted 369 one-day festivals, reaching over 19.000 children. The festivals provide opportunities for play and social connections, particularly vital for internally displaced children (IDP) and those with special needs.

Local partnerships form the foundation for our success. Working with 18 intersectoral networks, including schools, sports clubs, and local authorities, we ensure sustainable program delivery – even in challenging circumstances.

Looking ahead to 2025, we will expand our reach by establishing permanent football activities in all 18 Youth Hubs, with additional locations planned in new regions. This growth reflects our commitment to creating safe spaces where children can have fun, build friendships and be a part of a strengthened community.

Our work in Ukraine demonstrates how football can serve as a powerful tool for building resilient communities. Through the dedication of our volunteers and local partners, we continue to play for peace.
